PRESS RELEASE
AtlasAlive! Internet Map Publishing Framework Version 4.0
Worldwide – Distributed Geospatial Services (DGS) is excited to announce the release of version 4.0 of its Internet Map Publishing Framework, AtlasAlive!. AtlasAlive! makes publishing GIS maps easy and the new release provides significantly expanded features.
AtlasAlive! was first released in July 2006, providing a revolutionary approach to publishing GIS maps to the web with integrated database capabilities. With this server software installed, publishing full-featured GIS maps becomes as easy as uploading a file to a website -- no programming required. In four simple steps, you can publish your GIS map to the web and experience a higher level of collaboration. Any user with access to the internet and one of the major browsers can view the map, perform complex queries, overlay custom layers, link to web services, and place notes and comments for review.
Version 4.0 of AtlasAlive! adds the capability to use tile layers from other web based map resources, such as SpatialCloud.com or OpenStreetMap.org. And in 4.0 we introduce SmartFeatures, point data that can be added and maintained by users within AtlasAlive! itself. SmartFeatures have structured and unstructured data columns and custom icons which can be set by the Administrator and allow users to add and maintain documents, images and web links. SmartFeatures can also be set as GPS capable so that with appropriate GPS hardware and data links, real time location tracking is possible in the AtlasAlive map. With these two new capabilities it’s possible in just a few minutes to create a simple GIS map based on existing open source tile resources and SmartFeature point data. These maps can then be published using our powerful user management system or as public access maps.
In addition, version 4.0 greatly simplifies the user interface, making GIS less intimidating for the novice user, while actually expanding the powerful features at the heart of AtlasAlive! We have added a Query Builder, hiding the complexity of SQL for the novice user and letting advanced users build compound queries quickly. We now also have quick links for custom reports or queries. The improved wiki-style help system provides access to our thorough documentation while allowing clients to prepare customized help facilities to their users.
AtlasAlive! is built on the Manifold™ framework and can publish Manifold map files natively. Conversion to Manifold from most common GIS map formats can be achieved with relative ease. Linking to most types/formats of images, image libraries or spatial databases can also be achieved with ease. These include ESRI™, MapInfo™, Oracle Spatial™, DB2™, MS SQL™, MrSid™, ECW™, along with a myriad of others.
AtlasAlive! On Demand (AAOD) provides cost effective per map rates for use in an SAAS environment. Learn more or join the private Beta test at aa.mapserving.com.
